专业概况

在这里学什么？

The essence of public health is to prevent disease, promote health and prolong life.

This course will prepare you to become a public health professional ready to address local and global health problems. You’ll learn about multidisciplinary, evidence-based approaches and be taught by researchers who are experts in epidemiology, evidence synthesis, randomised controlled trials and social medicine.

We offer you a range of options so that you can develop both the core disciplines you need for public health practice and study a number of specialised aspects of public health including health policy, public health research, or global and humanitarian work.

Course content

We're constantly working to improve our research-led curriculum to help you gain the knowledge you need to develop as a public health professional. This course will provide you with a grounding in research methods, epidemiology and biostatistics.

You'll study a range of compulsory and option modules that will equip you with the necessary knowledge, skills, practice and experience to improve your understanding of:

• research methods applicable to population-based research
• the impact of major communicable and non-communicable diseases on population health globally
• effective methods of disease prevention and health promotion
• health inequalities and their effect on health and wellbeing
• health systems approaches to public health globally
• public health practice and policy
• epidemiology and statistics
• the theory and practice of health promotion
• ethics and human rights in health practice.

Careers and skills

Our graduates have undertaken exemplary work worldwide including dealing with disease outbreaks, such as Ebola, developing community health clinics in remote areas, working in hospitals, leading government and non-government agencies, working as public health consultants and working in leading humanitarian organisations. Some graduates also choose to go onto further PhD study. The MPH is run in collaboration with the Hull York Medical School (HYMS).

为来自中国的学生设计 For a postgraduate taught course such as a Masters, you would normally need a Bachelors degree from a recognised institution in a relevant subject. The score you will need depends on which university you attended in China and which subject you are applying to. Typically you would need at least the equivalent to a UK upper second class honours degree, however some courses will accept lower second class honours degrees. Actual requirements will vary by course: A score of 80 to 85 per cent is considered comparable to a UK 2:1; A score of 75 to 80 per cent is considered comparable to a UK 2:2. If you're a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability.
