专业概况

The Department of Biology requires that its graduate majors have a strong undergraduate background in the biological sciences. In addition to furthering the professional status of its graduate students, the Department of Biology seeks to imbue them with a strong spirit of inquiry. As these students strengthen their knowledge and appreciation of the living world they are encouraged to make their own contribution to man's understanding of this world.

Students wishing to pursue a master’s degree in biology may designate general biology as an emphasis, in which case graduate courses will be selected from all three biological areas (botany, cellular and molecular biology, ecology and evolutionary biology); or they can designate one of the three emphasis areas and focus their coursework primarily in that area.

Goals of the Department of Biology M.S. Program

To provide advanced education and training in the biological sciences To develop, with the student, the skill sets necessary to conduct independent research in the biological sciences To enhance a student's potential for employment in the biological sciences or entrance to a Ph.D. or other professional program.

Students may choose the thesis or non-thesis option. The thesis option requires (30) credit hours of course work and the completion of a thesis.

Students who choose the non-thesis option must complete (36) hours of course work determined by their non-thesis faculty advisor.

为来自中国的学生设计 To apply for a master’s degree program at SFA, you must meet one of the following requirements: Be in your final year of undergraduate work; Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Generally, all applicants must have an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and a 2.8 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work. English Language Scores: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score - 79 IBT (Internet-Based) and 550 PBT (Paper-Based); International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score - Overall band 6.5; Pearson Test of English (PTE) score – 53.
