专业概况

The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program prepares nurses to provide advanced practice in acute care settings through a program of study focused on the care of acutely ill patients and complex chronically ill patients and their families in high acuity specialty areas including critical care, trauma surgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, and hospital medicine. The program integrates content in advanced health assessment, clinical decision making and diagnosis, advanced pharmacology, and management of acutely ill adults with specialty seminars taught by expert clinicians. Seminars and clinical experiences emphasize the physiological and psychosocial impact of acute and chronic illness on the patient and family.

Graduates are prepared to sit for the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification exam administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the AACN Certification Corporation.

Program Length The four-semester, 48-hour program may be pursued full time, part time or post masters.

Unique Highlights Students in this program receive a broad exposure to managing the acute and complex clinically ill patients and are educated to work as independent practitioners and as members of an interdisciplinary team.

Clinical Experience More than 700 hours of directly supervised clinical practice with physician and acute care nurse practitioner preceptors are required for degree completion. Sites include hospitals and many specialty practices in the metropolitan-Atlanta area.

Career Opportunities Students graduating from this program have opportunities to work in acute and critical care specialty settings. Graduates have also found positions in critical care, trauma surgery, general surgery and all inpatient specialties.

Program Update Effective for students entering in Fall 2017: Enrollment in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program requires at least one year of professional nursing experience as an RN in an acute/critical care setting.
