Becoming a theatre artist requires mastering one field of study while developing knowledge and respect for the others. For this reason MFA students at Iowa have their own intensive programs and work closely with one another across disciplines. The art of the theatre occurs most successfully with this kind of open collaboration. When you apply for an MFA program at Iowa you are applying for admission to a community of artists.

Acting:

What makes the MFA in acting at the University of Iowa unique is the combination of a highly innovative curriculum and a distinctive emphasis on new work. We integrate the theories of Sanford Meissner, Jerzy Godowsky, and Katherine Fitzmaurice with extensive training in movement, and theatrical analysis to produce an unusually responsive, emotionally available artist. Additionally, we are home to the premiere playwriting program in the U.S., producing more new scripts each year than any other school. You work constantly with new material that challenges social, cultural & political norms — originating characters and contexts never before seen on the stage. Combined with a plethora of performance opportunities, an outstanding faculty, and world-class guest artists, you graduate well prepared for a career in the constantly changing field of acting.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree from a Regionally Accredited American College or University, or an equivalent degree from another country; A minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00, or the foreign equivalent. English Language Requirements: IELTS score of 7.0, with no subscore less than 6.0; PTE minimum score of 68 with no subscore less than 58; TOEFL scores below 100; a score of 550 or higher on the paper-based (PBT) version of the test, or a score of 81 or higher on the Internet-based version of the test (iBT).
