专业概况

The Department of French and Italian offers courses leading to the Master of Arts and the Doctor of Philosophy in French.

Graduate students in French and Francophone Studies benefit from the expertise of a nationally and internationally known faculty. Courses are available in the traditionally recognized historical periods of French literature and culture, as well as in various literary genres and critical theories. The Department provides a wide variety of courses in Francophone literatures and cultures from, Canada, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, North and sub-Saharan Africa, in the literatures of immigration in France as well as in Film Studies and Gender Studies. We have specific strengths in Interdisciplinary studies notably in the areas of Comparative arts, Early Modern Studies, Film Studies, Francophone and Postcolonial Studies, History, and Women’s Studies.

Without Thesis:

For some students this may be a terminal degree, for others a step in pursuit of the doctorate. The plan of study preparatory to the degree should correspond to the objectives of the candidate.

Requirements

Candidates must earn a minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate credit and pass a comprehensive written and oral examination.

With Thesis:

Requirements

The requirements for the thesis program are essentially the same for the M.A. without thesis, except that candidates may earn up to 6 semester hours of credit for thesis work. Candidates must defend the thesis at the time of the comprehensive examination. Candidates must earn a minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate credit and pass a comprehensive written and oral examination.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree from a Regionally Accredited American College or University, or an equivalent degree from another country; A minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00, or the foreign equivalent. English Language Requirements: IELTS score of 7.0, with no subscore less than 6.0; PTE minimum score of 68 with no subscore less than 58; TOEFL scores below 100; a score of 550 or higher on the paper-based (PBT) version of the test, or a score of 81 or higher on the Internet-based version of the test (iBT).
