The school offers a joint Master of Social Work/Doctor of Philosophy in social work for students who have completed course work in research and statistics and have post baccalaureate experience related to social work practice. The joint program permits students to apply a limited amount of credit toward both graduate degrees, reducing the time required to graduate. Individuals interested in the joint program must apply to the M.S.W. program and the Ph.D. program; applications are reviewed by the admissions panels of both programs.

The MSW is considered the terminal degree for students interested in a practice career. The PhD in social work is an interdisciplinary program that prepares students to teach and to conduct research, and is not to be confused with a practice degree. Most graduates of the PhD program obtain positions at universities, at research institutions or in government.

The combined program allows students to complete the MSW degree while earning credit toward the PhD degree. Instead of taking six years to complete the MSW and PhD programs separately, students in the combined program can complete the MSW and PhD degree in five years. Applicants admitted to the combined program work with the director of the PhD program to develop an individualized program of study.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree from a Regionally Accredited American College or University, or an equivalent degree from another country; A minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00, or the foreign equivalent. English Language Requirements: IELTS score of 7.0, with no subscore less than 6.0; PTE minimum score of 68 with no subscore less than 58; TOEFL scores below 100; a score of 550 or higher on the paper-based (PBT) version of the test, or a score of 81 or higher on the Internet-based version of the test (iBT).
