Art Education majors attending Stephen F. Austin State University are uniquely prepared to enter the art classroom at all grade levels. The SFA Art Education combines active studio practice and in-depth development of classroom theories and a range of approaches for teaching and learning to ensure you are prepared for your career in Art Education. Our program focuses on meaning-making and direct engagement and takes into careful consideration the cultural, material, historical and technical aspects of art making and art education.

The SFA Art Education student experiences teaching art through a student-centered, active and culturally responsive program focused on classroom preparedness which is knowledgeable in contemporary education issues as well as contemporary theories in art making. The BFA with Teacher Certification in Art prepares students for a career in teaching art in elementary, middle or high school. Alternative career paths in public and community art programs as well as museum and non-profit art educational settings are also available through this degree.

The student-centered, immersive coursework includes professional education, art history and criticism and a wide range of studio art courses offered by SFA’s School of Art. Students complete their student art education experience with an invaluable internship and student teaching experience in a K-12 art classroom setting. The BFA with Teacher Certification in Art offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art prepares students for long, successful careers in Art Education.
