专业概况

在这里学什么？ This course offers proven routes to rewarding careers within rural business, estate management consultancy and property in the countryside. Bidwells, Strutt and Parker, Carter Jonas, Savills, Fisher German and Brown & Co are some of the nationally-recognised businesses our graduates have gone on to work for - and so could you.Accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), you will learn the fundamentals of rural professional practice as well as law, valuation, building constructions and management, and planning and development. You will develop an essential understanding of wider business management to enable you to provide effective advice about farm estate and other rural businesses while gaining an overall understanding of the multi-functionality of rural practice.**Course Structure**You will learn through a series of lectures, seminars, group tutorials, practical sessions and visits to local farms, commercial properties and rural estates.Modules are assessed through a range of coursework, often based on real-life case studies and sponsored by land management firms, which help you to see the practical application of the subjects you are studying. In your third year, case studies are supplied by practicing surveyors from their own portfolios of work.You will complete a Research Project in a subject area of specific interest. The course is also flexible and it is possible to transfer on to the Real Estate degree if certain conditions are met.**Work Placement**In your first and second year, you are encouraged to organise your own work experience during the holidays with assistance from our Careers Team. At the end of your second year you will be placed with a firm or organisation to complete a minimum of two weeks of work experience.The one year placement in Year 3, is designed to enable students to complete a relevant enhanced work placement experience to help them identify future career choices and enhance relevant skills sets sought by employers. It is an additional module that students can choose to take after their work experience at Level 5. The module allows students to develop a deeper understanding and gain further experience in a relevant business or employment area to enhance their work experience at Level 5. Students are expected to experience and engage in various aspects of their chosen industry from an operational to practical working.Whilst not a pre-condition for entry onto the course, you are encouraged to undertake some practical farming experience and professional work experience with a rural surveyor before embarking on your programme of study. A close understanding of agriculture, from the perspective of a farmer, is fundamental to a future career as an adviser on rural property matters. The Programme Manager will be happy to provide further guidance to you about the type of work experience that would be particularly suitable for your individual circumstances.
